Elder Adams is returning with honor!

These pictures Talon sent us back at the end of November and December 2011- his last Christmas in the Philippines...

He described this Christmas as his "White Christmas"- and he didn't mean it was white because of snow... :) What a wonderful way to celebrate Christ's birth upon the earth than to have helped a family start on their journey to be together forever.

So, here they are for the very last time possibly while a missionary, Talon's words- his feelings about his mission and the gospel. (Believe me, it will be way worth your time to read them.)

"it is a dang bitter sweet feeling to be ending full time missionary service. i dont think it has really sunk in that it is coming to a close. i think i am going to call President Pagaduan and see if i can extend again. ha jk."

"Its been the most incredible 2 years of my whole life. its been a dream and my life has changed alot for the good because of it. and also i am so grateful that i have been able to help other people to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their lives. The Gospel is everything it is the way to happiness in this life and the life to come. i just want to bear my testimony to all of you that this is Gods Work and this is his church. and Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and through him Gods church was restored here on the earth. i know that the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is true and we are being led by a living prophet this day. This is Gods kingdom here on the earth. i am once again grateful for all the support from all of you at home for being there and writing and supporting me my whole mission it really means the world to me. i really have the best family. i love you all so so much."

Elder Adams we are all so very proud of you and all that you have done and learned while serving in the Iloilo Philippines mission. You have been and will continue to be a light and an example to our whole family, you have taught us about the power of the scriptures and the power of prayer, and maybe most of all you have taught us about the kind of miracles that can happen when we are patient, dedicated, positive, and put every ounce of our faith in the Lord. We love you Elder Adams and look forward to seeing you in just 1 week and 1 day!

(You'll have to excuse Talon's spelling... He never was a very at it, but since learning a new language I think it may have even gotten worse, but these are Talon's words, not mine, so here ya go. Oh, and I know it seems like, but just take a couple of minutes and read it- I promise it is well worth the time.)

"So i guess i will just start from the top. as you see in the pictures that i have sent you wow arent they amazing. So the couple you see in the picture that is the Gabeles family that i am always writing about. they are one amazing family. and let me tell you they could not be more happy to be a member of this church. they seriously are on cloud 9 and just so grateful. After there baptism of coarse they bore there testimony about the church. and all 3 of them just broke into tears thats how happy they were. That man you see in the picture his name is Wilson Gabales. and he told us in his testimony that for the last 30 years of his life he hasnt ever prayed or gone to church or anything of that sort at all. he told us that he didnt even really know if there was a god. Then he broke into tears saying how happy he was to meet us and to hear our message. and for him to learn for himself that he does have a heavenly father that loves him and that he can pray to him. it was the most sincere testimony i have ever heard. like just looking at this man you would think that he looks pretty mean but he is the greatest every. and everytime you see him he just greets you with the biggest smile. This is also the same man who has smoked 40 sticks a day for the last 35 years and quit in 2 weeks. he is a testimony to anyone. i know that if this man could quit smoking then anyone who has an addiction to anything can quit. it all starts with just a little desire. just have to want it."

"Second the little 10 year old girl that you see in the picture that is Mica Ella. you dont know how bad i wish i could have taped her testimony and then have all of you hear it. ha even though you wouldnt understand it. but it was amazing. here is what she told us. she started by telling us a little back ground about her life. she told us that her older sister died and that her mother left her and they dont know where she is and she also told us that they gave away there little brother. then it was just her and her dad living out on the street. no money no anything. and in all honesty the dad not caring that much with a really big drinking problem. so she went on to tell us that they would only get to eat once a day and she told us the only thing that they would have to eat is a little bit of rice and salt. yep thats it and that is what they would eat. So she went on to tell us how grateful she is for the Tanaman family for taking her in and pretty much adopting her and giving her food. shelter and clothes. now she is just so so happy and she has a family that cares about her and loves her. and no they are not rich by any means but she gets to eat and has a little house to sleep and is just so happy for that. this entire time she was sharing this with us she was in tears and speaking in a very quite voice that was hard to hear. but this little girl really touched my heart really made me think about what is really important in our lives and how grateful we need to be for those things because not everybody has those things. not everyone has a mother and father and family, or house and food. So i have learned so so much from this little girl and i am just so so grateful for all of the blessings that i have in my life i know that i have way to many. i really am so happy for this little girl and so grateful for the tanaman family for taking her into there house and taking care of her. they are Awesome!! and she is now just so so happy to be a member of the church."

"LIVING THE DREAM"

"and we are crossing our fingers that micheal will be able to get his marriage license today so he can be baptized this Saturday. so we are way excited for him we are also doing a family home evening with him tonight. and they are also inviting the Mayor and his family to attend the family home Evening. so elder gowey and i are going to prepare a really cool family home evening."

"really i don't even know where to start there is so much that has happened and so little time to write but i will try and get as much as i can in because it has been an awesome week and very busy. So lets start with the pictures. yes that is my boy micheal and he got baptized this last saturday. it was the coolest baptism every. if you know this man you would love him he has changed his whole entire life to be baptized and to follow christ. and he has been waiting a long time to be baptized. before he used to drink all the time and smoke alot. and have earrings and all kinds of stuff like that. but now he is one of the newest members of this church and next week will be receiving the priesthood. i had the opportunity to baptize him it was amazing the spirit was so so strong. the first thing he said to me after he came out of the water was that in one year from now im taking my family to the temple. thats his goal he really wants to take his family to the temple and be sealed. he testimony was so so strong that he bore after he was baptized he shared with us his desire to go to the temple and he has a really strong testimony of joseph smith. he told us how his life has started over new and how now he is on the right path and he is going to do everything to stay on the right path. it was a great experience for me i really love this guy. i have been teaching him for over 4 months now but he has actually been taught by the missionaries for three years. so that day had been waiting a long time. i hope you all like the pictures. oh and what makes it even more interesting i dont know if any of you remember but a few months ago i sent you pictures of his wedding when he got married. well come to find out his wedding wasnt valid. i guess he didnt have all the right papers before he was baptized so he really wasnt supposed to get married yet. So he had to be married again before his baptism haha it was way funny. we just did it in the bishops office and he married them. i hope you like the background of the first presidency haha i thought it was pretty cool."

"oh i almost forgot the picture with Elder Farnsworth and i at the hotel. that has a cool story behind it. its one of the biggest hotels on this island it has like 200 rooms and we placed books of mormons there one for every room so it was way sweet now anyone who stays there will have a book of mormon to read. we are flooding the earth with book of mormons."

Not that that is something Talon is talking about. I don't think Talon is ready AT ALL to even think about coming home. He is having the time of his life! And why shouldn't he be, everything he tells us about sounds amazing!

Talon hit his 1 year mark on January 27th! None of us can believe how fast time is flying by. It seems like just yesterday that Talon left for his mission.

These are the latest pictures that Talon has sent to us. I think they are mostly of a family that Talon was able to baptize in January. From what Talon has told us they are a pretty amazing family! We are happy that Talon was able to help them find the gospel.

Well, as you can see Talon is doing real great. He is now assistant to the president and still is loving every single second of his mission. A lot has been happening for Talon out in the Philippines- so much so that I am even having a hard time now keeping up on all the changes and transfers for this blog! For Christmas all of the family got together and made Talon a Christmas tree and ornaments with our pictures on them for Talon to decorate and put up in his apartment. We also sent him and his companion the "12 days of Christmas," which Talon told us in his last email that he was very excited for! Christmas has always been Talon's very most favorite time of the year and we are excited to see what this Christmas is like for Talon out on his mission. Merry Christmas Talon! Only two more weeks and we'll be talking to you on the phone!

"me and my comp have been working our tails off trying to find those that have been prepared by the lord. and we really are having some luck. we only had one investigator in church yesterday but we really had a awesome week teaching this week just have to help the people have faith to come to church. but i want to tell you a little about my one investigator that was at church his name is ray custodio he is 77 years old and we just found him last week and he has already come to church 2 times and he even came to a baptism that we had here in estancia on saturday. he is way dedicated and told us he wanted to be baptized and said he would do what ever he needed to do to come to church each and every week. he said even if he has to borrow money from someone to get there. he is kinda a slow learner but he learns it and is willing to try he is a really awesome guy. i think he will be baptized in the next coulple weeks."

Talon was transferred a little bit ago to a brand new area, an area where there have never been missionaries, called Balasan, and he is working hard with his new companion. Also, big news since Talon got moved to this new area- Talon is now a trainer!

Well, as you can see in the above slideshows, Talon just sent us a ton of pictures! And I couldn't even fit all of them on the 2 slideshows, there were over 300 pictures and it was just too hard to try to pick a few out to put in a post so I thought that the slideshows could be fun too- so enjoy! (Sorry, some of the pictures are sideways...I don't know how to fix it?)

Talon is having a great time on his mission. He is happy and having lots of super great experiences each and every day. Here is an excerpt from Talon's weekly email from June 21, 2010:

"...Then saturday we had 2 baptisms!!!!!!!!! it was awesome i got to baptize them also so it was amazing we had a cool experience there to. so i went to the church early to make sure they were getting ready for the baptism but no one was there so i started filling up the font because it takes a long time to fill up and then the water stopped coming at only about 1 foot of water the well went dry. no more water. and along with that the water was completly brown and smelled so so so rotten and gross haha so we waited we didnt know what we were going to do the baptism was supposed to start at 6 and it was 630 now and then all of the sudden it just started pouring rain like harder then i have ever seen in my life it was so so cool and it filled up the well with enough water that we could fill up the font enough to have the baptisms. barely enough and it was brown and nasty. but we did it and it was so so cool even if the water was not clean and there was barely enough they just wanted to be baptized. i know that the lord prepared a way for us to have that baptism. it really was a great spiritual experience..."

In other news, Talon has not only been transferred to a new area, he is no longer on Panay Island, (and he has a new companion- Elder Ellsworth from Arizona) but he is also part of the new mission in the Philippines, instead of being in the Philippines Bacolod Mission, Talon will now be serving in the Phillippines Iloilo Mission! Talon is very excited for this change- the new mission opened on July 1, 2010 and Talon will probably be getting a new mailing address for this new mission soon, so watch out for that so that you know the right place to mail letters to him!

Here's a glimpse at the last little bit of time Talon spent at the MTC before leaving for the Philippines and then some pictures of what its been like for him there so far...(these pictures were sent to us on a CD so none of them have any writing on the back or anything to describe what the picture is of or anything like that...)

Hello Family.. greetings from the other side of the world haha well to start off this last week has been pretty amazing.. so on saturday we had 4 baptisms it was so so cool and guess what else i got to baptize all 4 of them i really am so lucky to be able to do that it was such an amazing experience. i was so nervous when they asked me to do but it all went so good and it was so cool. the spirit was so so strong and i am so grateful for that oppertunity. and then yesterday in church my comp confirmed them. it was a pretty amazing week. the spirit was felt very strong. and n0w we still have 2 more investigators that are close to baptism so hopefully they will be soon. we also have been doing alot of work with less active that really is a big problem here is there is lots of members but alot just get baptized and then dont come back to church we have about 400 less actives in our ward so we really have been trying to get people back to church and trying to get the ward to do more home and visiting teaching that is really what they need. it has probally been the hottest week ever here we are in like the dead of summer right now the hottest part of the year here its insanely hot. haha the heat really takes alot out of me haha and i really never thought i could sweat so much. haha but its ok. oh and mom i get to call home in 2 weeks from today on my monday morning and i dont know exactly how i am going to do it yet we might call from the church here and use a phone card or im not sure yet i will let you know for sure everything next week. mom thank you so much for your scriptures that you write they really help me so so much you really do help me alot alot thank you so so much for everything. i am so glad that you got my letter. i am glad it doesnt take too long oh ya i also sent you a cd last week of pictures so hopefully you will get that soon. i am so glad to hear from everyone at home and i love reading all the emails i miss you all very very much. i love you i will write again next week Love Elder Adams

Well, Talon made it to the Philippines and has been there for a few weeks now. And he is doing great! He hasn't been able to send us any pictures yet, but we hope we will get some soon. So far, Talon loves it in the Philippines! He says he is "learning and sweating alot" (it is really hot there)! He is teaching a few different investigators right now and has a potential baptism for the near future. He says the spirit is strong there and is loving every minute of being there and being a missionary!

Well, as you can see Talon is having a blast at the MTC. These are pictures that Talon mailed to us a couple of weeks ago. WE LOVE GETTING PICTURES! Talon is studying hard at the MTC and getting prepared to leave for the Phillippines in just a little over 2 weeks! Talon is a little nervous to be speaking only in Tagalog once he is there (he is practicing all the time in the MTC though!), but he is so excited because he can't wait to be there teaching real people about the gospel.

Talon has now been in the MTC for a little over 4 weeks! Wow, how time really flies! AND Talon's stay at the MTC is already half way over! Talon leaves the MTC on March 29th for the Phillipines. Talon emails us every Monday and writes my mom, Lance, Hunter, and Maddie quite regularly. Both my family and Talon love hearing from each other! We all make sure to send lots of letters and lots of packages to Talon! And we look forward each Monday for his emails. And each email just gets better and better as we hear about all that Talon is learning and doing in the MTC. He is studying so hard. He says he has never studied so hard in his whole life, ha ha, not that that is hard to beat since I'm not sure he's never really studied HARD in his entire life until now! Ha ha. But Talon is so dedicated to learning the gospel and learning Tagalog! We have all been anxiously waiting for pictures from Talon and finally this week we got some!

Talon and his "lovely" companion Elder Larsen- first day in the MTC. At first, Talon wasn't so sure about his companion. He told us that they have nothing in common, but that maybe that was a good thing because then they are able to better focus on the studying at hand. :)

Talon rolled his ankle a couple of weeks ago and apparently this was the result of the roll. "But don't worry," he told my mom, "it's already almost better!" Pretty gross lookin', don't ya think?

translation...i know that the gospel of jesus christ is true. i know that jesus christ is the son of god. i know that families can be together forever. i know that familes are very importand to god. i love my family.. in the name of jesus christ amen.

goodbye for 2 years!

On Wednesday, January 27th our whole family came to say goodbye to Talon before dropping him off at the MTC. We all met at the Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then headed off to the Provo temple to say our final goodbyes. What an amazingly emotional day it was for everyone! We were all so very happy for Talon to finally be at the MTC- to be a missionary- but we were also a little sad since 2 years can seem like a long time. But we all know that it will surely fly by a lot quicker than we will even realize!

We had to have three huge tables to fit all of our family at the Cracker Barrel and they were all completely FULL. It was such a great morning with lots of good fun, some time to say goodbye to Talon one on one, and we were able to take lots of good pictures!

The food was amazing and there was so much of it too! The service at the Cracker Barrel was also pretty amazing, we all got our food pretty quickly and we were all stuffed by the time we were done eating it!

Once we were at the temple it was time to say our final goodbyes. It was hard, but so good. And Talon was very ready to just be in the MTC! So we took lots more pictures, gave Talon lots of hugs and all wished him good luck before my parents, Hunter, Maddie, BreAnne, and Maccoy took Talon to the MTC and dropped him off. It all happened very quickly and all of the sudden it was all over and he was gone. Such a crazy feeling!

Now, Talon has almost been in the MTC for two weeks and he is doing great. He writes to us every Monday, which is his P-day and we all write him lots of letters and send him lots of packages whenever we can. Talon says he will send us some pictures of him at the MTC soon and we are looking forward to that. We are all so happy for Talon and feel so blessed to have a missionary in our family!

Talon's farewell was yesterday and it went so well. Talon did a great job on his talk and the chapel was PACKED with all of our family and friends. Talon is so loved. Our house was also PACKED after church as everyone came over to have some yummy breakfast foods and to wish Talon good luck!

It was such a BUSY day. And the day just simply flew by for all of us. We weren't able to get half as many pictures and we would have liked to. So many family and friends were at our house to show their love and support for Talon and it was so amazing to be a part of it all. We are all so excited for Talon to be a servant of the Lord bringing Heavenly Father's children to the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

a couple of TEMPLE trips...

On Thursday, January 7, 2010, Talon came up to Orem and had dinner and went to the Timpanogos temple with Justin and I. It was such a great night. The spirit was strong and we all felt so happy and it showed- even after we left His holy house. After Justin and I went on a little drive with Talon up to the MTC to show him where his is going to be dropped off at and fun little things like that. I think it made it a lot more real for Talon, which in turn made him a little nervous, but also more excited at the same time! In-N-Out was our last stop, where we all had shakes (the boys also had a hamburger!) and then Talon went on his way back to West Point, before it got too late. What a fun night to spend together!

As the day gets closer for Talon to go into the MTC our family strives harder and harder to spend more and more time with Talon...

And so...on Saturday, January 9, 2010, we all went to the Salt Lake Temple together- Talon, Justin and I, and our parents. (BreAnne and Adam wanted to be there too, but in the end they weren't able to make it. :( ) Our time at the temple was peaceful and relaxing as we were able to feel the strong spirit that is always there. And although I am sad that I didn't remember to get pictures outside of the temple with us all together, these pictures of all of us (even Hunter and Maddie!) at Chili's after getting back from the temple come pretty close to showing just what a great night we had.

Such an important day in Talon's life.

Talon has been called to serve in the Philippines, Bacolod Mission and reports to the MTC on January 27, 2010

This is such an important and EXCITING time in not only Talon's life but also in the lives of his friends who are also taking upon themselves the call that God has for them.
Grandpa Craythorne. He is a hero in so many peoples lives and these three boys are no exception. They look up to and admire Grandpa Craythorne so much and because of his example to them they will be better missionaries and stronger men throughout the whole of their lives.
Our family is forever. We are all so very excited for Talon and his decision to serve a mission and although we will miss him and anticipate the time when he will be back home with us we will be here cheering him on the whole way! We know he will be a strong and valiant servant of the Lord and that he will bring many people joy and happiness that will last for eternity through sharing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

becoming ELDER Adams

What a wonderful day to spend together with family. On Sunday September 13, 2009 Talon was set apart as an Elder. It was a very spiritual and emotional experience for all of us as we came to realize just how close Talon is to being a missionary.

This is one of Talon's first steps (of many) to being Elder Adams in the mission field teaching all he comes in contact with about the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ. And as a family we want to share his experiences with you- as he grows stronger we hope to all grow stronger too and we also want to share with everyone the good news of the gospel! Talon will be a mission out in the mission field and we will all strive to be member missionaries here at home while he is away.
